Fuel on plugs
Well I've got a fresh built motor in the car and I'm just about done getting the exhaust repaired so I can hear whats going on. I'd like to start tuning. I've managed to get the car to idle and timed in at 6 deg. Idles around 800 not to erratic, pretty steady. But it smells extremley rich. Granted open headers and all but still pretty rich. So I got bored and decided to pull a couple of plugs to get an idea of how it's running without a real tune on it. Now I've only had this motor running long enough to get the timing set maybe 10 min total. The top of the plug and a couple of threads was pure black and at the tip it was wet, but not oil. Pure gas on the plugs. So i'm curious how can I get this from happening, drop the pressure maybe? I also checked the how much vacuum the motor is getting at idle shows about 13.5 in/hg, is that low for the cam I have? Or about right. I'm afraid of washing out the cylinder walls while trying to tune it, I can't afford to rebuild this thing again so I really need to stop it from running so rich while I check for any leaks and figure out how to tune it. Any help would be appreciated.

I would say check your fuel pressure and make sure your jets are working correctly.
