Biuld help
Whats up everyone? I have a 1992 sbc right now with .030 bore on it and it has a balanced rotating assembly and is in good condition. I'm not budget biulding this, I have money to spend and I would like a good top end on it, but I don't want to do any machine work on heads or anything. My question is if I buy a set of zz4 heads, and one of those zz4 power package kits will these parts compliment each other on this biuld. In my mind it seems like if the package is a complete kit, everything you need for the zz4 engine, then it would make sense that I could go with zz4 heads and the 64 hp kit, and no machine work is required. Correct?

Re: Biuld help
Have some fun. Go get a 350 4 bolt truck engine. bout 84 or 85. stick a Duntov 30 - 30 cam with solid lifters in it, top it off with a high rise and a pair of 550 double pump holly carbs.
May want to yank them gears in the back, put in some 4.88s and be sure to tie the frame and might want to look into a set of ladder bars. Your're gonna need um'

Re: Biuld help
Got any links to these kits, I'm not up on the details.
Go with a set of good aftermarket heads instead of the zz4 if you have the coin.
2 or 4 bolt doesn't really matter at this power level, the duntov 30-30 was good.......in the 60's, and dyno tests have proven that dual carb manifolds make less power than a modern single carb manifold, not to mention tuning 2 carbs. Why ladder bars? I'd consider them a downgrade to a 3rd gen f body, lots of people go VERY fast on stock style suspension.

There's the link. I don't really like comp's thumpr cams at all, which is what comes in that kit. I prefer their XE cams.
Do you already have the heads?

No, I have a bottom end, and Im trying to come up with a good top end that has a little lump to the cam and makes good power under 5500rpm.

All was done with a little tongue in cheek humor. It seems that we have a tendancy to get carried away with high tech stuff, that unless you are a MIT grad, you have no idea what it is for or what it does. Hence the ref. to the old Corvette 30- 30 and (groan) solid lifters) 2 X 4 on a high rise is neat sticking out the hood but what a pain to tune. Ladder bars will keep you in a straight line and get rid of axle hop which was real common with Chevelles and Novas.
Go to the local car show and see what most people are milling around. It's not the high tech super duper go fast Honda or even Mustang. It's the 55 Chev with the open wheel wells, blower or tunnel ram sticking thru the hood, ladder bars and big meats under the rear. Nobody cares if it has double- hump 327 heads. Thanks for the reply, really got me remembering........

Most of them have heard about my car, apparently low 12's is pretty quick around here.I don't go to many car shows, not really that interesting. I prefer the race track, I always walk around the pits between runs and talk to people about their cars.
I do my best to research how things work and why, if I put as much effort into homework as I have my cars I'd probably have straight A's and a nice scholarship. I think an engineering degree helps in the go fast world....

I've just had too many of the local red necks tell me nearly the same thing and how it would do wheelies and what not. None of them ever want to race though, wonder why....

WOW! I'm a little new to this forum and didn't realize that a little humor was not allowed. But then we can be serious on this end too..
In 1970 I campaigned a 1970 Plymouth Duster, 340 six pack, a sig erson cam and lifters, a little head work in the garage, 4.30 gears and a modified 727 trans. I ran in E stock modified and ran in the low to mid 12's. and I drove it to work on Mon morning. I know this was before you were born and I had already been to V.N twice.
12 sec. street machines will get beat. It's a promise.....
If your still in school and are in search of a scholarship then buckle down and go for that engineering degree, but there much better things to use it for than trying to get .01 second faster than some red neck in a beat up junker.
Figure out how to run the thing on CNG. Then you'll have something.
Got a 10 second mustang in the garage to get ready for tomorrow. Dang Fords anyway........

I enjoy the humor. Your oldschool clearly. Nothing wrong with that. But on a serious note the pistons are flat tops and I'm looking to spend at least 3k on finishing this project. O and btw, I'm a r.e.d.n.e.k.
