Newbie needs gasket help
Newbie needs gasket help
I have to replace my t-stat, and I got the fabric gasket, but do I need to add some silicone or RTV liquid gasket stuff??
I've always just used the fabirc material gasket, but I see/hear people using the liquid paste stuff.
What's best and why?
Thanks

personal preference, if it wont seal with just a gasket then there might be warping, i use just a little myself mainly to help me sleep better at night but its not necessary

i've used most hardening and non hardening and rtv but no silicone yet and as long as it says its okay being in the antifreeze environment its fine, can't think of any that you shouldnt use really

I've always used regular black RTV and worked a thin coating onto both sides of the gasket. I do the same thing with valve cover gaskets and no leaks in anything so far.

rtv black is the safe all purpose gasket maker to use, never use the blueish clear silicone on aluminum its acidic and will eat the aluminum. just stick with RTV BLACK.
