car goes poop!

I was driving to work yesterdsay morning and the car ran well until I got off the freeway and it lost power,at first I thought it was running out of gas or oil and I pulled over and went to get some gas and oil (just incase) and the car started up for about a minute and conked out,I replaced the fuel filter and tried turning it over after 3 clicks and the car cranks ,but no turn over, when I turned the key I did not hear the buzzing of the fuel pump at all!
now is it possible that the relay may have gone out or could the fuel pump be shot?....this is my only set of wheels and true work horse that I can only depend on and I got only so many hours to be back on the road!

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if it's fuel injected, this probably doesn't belong in the Carburetor forum. . .
