Car will not restart once warm...new rebuild.

1991 350 TPI new rebuild. Will start when cold and trying to set the timing to the 6* at warm temperature. (Unplugged the tan wire to set the base timing). When I have set the timing I turn off the car and replug in the tan wire. Then the car will not start. It is getting spark, fuel, and air as far as I can tell. Engine smells flooded. When I turn motor off it doesn't "diesel" or anything, just turns off like a normal operation. Instantly go to restart and cranks but does not fire up. When I let it sit for an hour or so it will start.

Am I off a tooth on the distributor? It is running a bit rough of course due to me trying to dial it in on the timing. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your fuelpressure ?
Maybe you got some leaky injectors and they flood it therefore making it not starting shile hot. So get your fuelpressure checked, idle, some higher rpm ~1800 for some secs to see if the pressure holds then check how long after shutdown the pressure stays..

Then let me know how it turns out.

Re: Car will not restart once warm...new rebuild.

Ok just purchased a FP gauge. It is at 42 psi and holding steady when off. So that should rule out leaky injectors. Vacuum is 17 inches. The car will start up when cold without a hickup, but as soon as it warms up the idle jumps up to 1500 rpm and that is when I cant get it to restart. I am thinking Idle control motor possibly? I took it out and it looks clean. Not gummed up or anything.

I tried out of curiousity what it would do if I WOT while starting and a few cylinders fired but not enough to get it going. So tells me maybe I have an air issue?

I have about 4 hours to kill before I will retry. Any ideas if I can test or try something to see if ICM before I go shell out $50 for one that may not be the issue here.

Thanks

Well, bit the bullet and purchased a new ICM. Now the car will not surge to 1500 RPM when warm. It just stays at a constant 1000 RPM. Now im trying to figure out why it wont drop down to around 500 RPM when warm. Slowly im getting issues resolved. I do have a code 15. Going to replace that CTS and hope all comes together.
