92 caprice wagon 5.7L how does this engine differ from a 92 camaro

I have a 92 Caprice Wagon with the 5.7L and want it to be the fastest wagon in town. Cold air intake? Remove EGR system? What about the intake, exhaust and heads?

if It`s the tbi 350 I`m pretty sure the bottom end is the same as L98,but with a smaller cam and swirl ramp heads. How many miles are on it?I`d keep the egr system and stuff for now.It aint hurting you.You can do a few bolt ons to the engine and add alittle power.A full exhaust/headers,good drop base air cleaner, and the ultimate TBI mods, would prolly help the most besides a really good tune up.Getting it running right before you start bolting stuff to it.After that gettin rid of those heads and cam is what I`d doThat is if its tbi.I forget what year they changed. Was it 93.Anyway,if it is check out the stickies on TBI BOARD.

It's more like the LO3 than the L98. With the extra weight of the Caprice, it will be slower than a stock '92 LO3.

Heads, cam, exhaust, PROM tuning - it'll run better, but don't expect blazing performance.

get rid of the cat (if you dont have an emission check), maybe some headers, a good free flowing 3" single exhuast or dual 2 1/2"

When did those start coming out with the LT1? I know there was a few years when you could have the L05 or LT1, and both are a 5.7L

Replacing the stock cat with a "high-flow" aftermarket version from Magnaflow, Catco, or Random Tech is a much better solution. You can have performance and cleaner air at the same time.

The EGR system allows the computer to advance the timing while cruising to give you better gas mileage. Without it, your cylinder temps go up and you can get knocking or pinging. It closes during wide open throttle, so it has no affect on your horsepower. Keep it, its beneficial to a street car.

Caprices came with the LT1 starting in 1994.

Re: 92 caprice wagon 5.7L how does this engine differ from a 92 camaro

i know my 94 Roadmaster wagon with very mildly modded Lt1 runs 14.6
and it ran a 15.1 stock but it also has the towing package with trans cooler oil cooler and much better gears and shift points
the earlier Tbi caprice sedans with 350s ran high 16s
so ill assume the tbi wagons would be low 17
but then again when my Rs was still a tbi 305 it ran a 16.7 stock
i just couldnt get my Tbi to respond well to mods
but now that my tbi engine is apart and seeing how crappy the swirl ports look with my own eyes i think the real issue is the heads

my tip for you is find an lt1 b-body cam
some tpi heads or aftermarket
hooker impala SS exhaust catback
and some impala SS headers
and get some better rear end gears
atlest then your tbi 350 has a fighting chance
