car smoking,not losing oil
car smoking,not losing oil
I have a 86 iroc lg4 with 150000 miles.it started smoking alittle on start up and at long stop lights.I figured this was valve leaking but I have checked my oil level and it hasnt changed.I was told this could be a bad master cylinder sucking brake fluid into vacum lines.I have never heard this before, anyone heard this one.Guess I will start looking at motors.O,it seems this smoking started all of a sudden, not a progressive thing. The car is stored alot and not driven much, maybe 300 m iles in the last 2 years.thanks

It doesn't take much oil to make a lot of smoke. It sounds like the well known valve seal/guide issue to me.

Re: car smoking,not losing oil
It's the valve seals, probably the exhaust.
Mine sat around a lot for two years, and upon returning to regular service, started smoking a lot more than before on startup. I just replace the seals last week. The exhausts were totally nonfunctional.
Totally clean on startup and at all times now!

My '73 Nova has that problem. About every 4-5K I have to refill the rear brake reservoir.
How's your break fluid level? If you pull the vacuum hose off is there any residue in there?
