anyone have their smog for a 350 TPI l98 still on?

I need to reconnect mine just up to the cat to pass inspection. anyone have a picture of the passenger side of their engine bay? all the ones i find have the A/c on the passenger side and the alt on the drivers(mine is the other way) I need to see how the hose routes back to the cat. I tried searching here and google but I cant find a good picture, plus I have a 85 z28 that has the L98 in it, but i just need a picture if anyone has one or could be so kind as to take one I would appreciate it

From the air pump, there is a metal line to the AIR diverter valve. That has two plastic fittings out the back to two rubber lines. One rubber line goes to a T fitting which splits between the passenger side and driver side AIR tubes on the manifolds. The other rubber line connects to a metal line which goes down the back of the engine and along the Y-pipe to the connection on the cat.

Okay, well I dont have to connect it to the manifolds I just need to put it to the cat, so the metal tube that sits in the engine bay on the passenger side goes back towards the cat? it looks like it goes around the back of the engine.

basically i just need to put a belt on the pump and run pipe to the cat, and that metak tube is the pipe for the cat? mind you this is on an 85(idk if it chagned

There are two of them. One goes behind the engine to the driver's side manifold.

The other goes behind the engine to the cat.

Re: anyone have their smog for a 350 TPI l98 still on?

On my 89, there is only 1 metal pipe. The exhaust manifold gases are connected by a thick rubber hose that goes behind the block. The metal line goes down the back of the passenger side to the cats.

Here is an old pic of my engine: http://redformula.com/Firebird/Rebui...d/DSC00912.JPG

I have several pics on the site that might help... feel free to look around.

Hope this helps!

1988 was the only year I know of that had a metal pipe around the back of the engine to the driver's side exhaust manifold. The other years had rubber lines.

82-87 engines have v-belt accessories, with the A/C on the driver's side and alternator on the passenger side. In 1988, GM came up with the serpentine accessory system, using only one belt for everything, and switch the A/C and the alternator.

You need high temp green hose going down to the cat.

It doesn't matter if you like the smell of smoking rubber hose.

No, the rubber hose went around the back of the engine to the driver's side exhaust manifold.

There is a metal line that goes down the back passenger side of the engine to the cat.

It follows the Y-pipe down to the cat and enters the middle of the cat.

Yea you have to fish it up from the bottom or down from the top. I forgot how I did it. I think I bought mine from rockauto.com for under $20.

I have a question for you smog guys. Is there a bracket to support the diverter valve? Any pics of it? I'm getting ready to install mine too.
