which should i do?

ok so i have an 88 camaro. dual exhaust. t-5 trans(v8). the wiring harness and dash harness has to be replaced(already chopped and tooken out, long story). the car was a 2.8 L 700r4.
the question is which would be cheaper, shorter, and overrall a good idea to do right now? go carb or fi? the car is going to be a daily driver, and i am on a budget. please ask if you need any more info on the car and as always thank you for the help.

cheaper prolly would go carb u dont need to run an ecu just got to get it tuned right...but fi if you can find used cheaply and get the ecu etc hooked up...prolly will save ya some gas money and would start easier when its cold...honestly though its all up to u and it depends on what your future plans are with the car...either way works just depends on what you can find and afford

Re: which should i do?

I acquired a 350 4-bolt main block that I planned on putting in my '91 with a 3.1L.

I decided against it since I would have to either grab wiring harnesses, and an ECU etc etc, or go carb. Going carb is not as simple as just getting the engine running. That is the easy part. Where it gets difficult is when you start getting into asking yourself "How am I going to connect my speedometer up?" The speed sensor is electronic. You will either have to rewire it directly to the gauge (If that will even work) or swap the gauge out for a mechanical one and run the cable down to the tranny. That is just one example.

It is certainly possible to switch to carb, but it may actually be more work. Make sure you have a plan before you make any final decisions. My personal opinion is that if the car came with FI, keep it FI (unless you are building a race car where such things are regulated).

Re: which should i do?

actually all tirdg gen speedos connect tp the tranny, weighter it be electric or a cable, mines cable. but that does bring a good point up, the rest of my cluster is ecletric so how would the things work with out a comp? i.e. would be the tach, oil pressure, fuel gauge, and engine temp, all would need senors regardless, and a comp regraudless, but i have to get a harness and comp anywaz so truthful that doesnt help my desicion. thanks for the input tho.

and actually the fuel deliervy system is for fi, i would hav to tank the in tank pump out for a carb right? but since im upgrading to a 5.7 wouldnt i hav to change pumps anywaz?

Re: which should i do?

Not sure what the flow rating is between the pumps. I know that the FI fuel pumps supply WAY to much pressure for a carb. You may be able to get away with getting an adjustable fuel pressure regulator if the flow is in spec.

Re: which should i do?

well you would have to wire stuff up i never said you dont have to do that...just saying with a carb u dont have to run an ecu...but you do have to hook all your gauges back up and a few things on the motor...go to your local junkyard and see if you can find a used tpi set up for cheap...other then that...get a carb and wire gauges back up...fuel pump can easily be swaped...gauges can still be hooked up...just go research it on TGO using the search about ppl not running ecu's and ask them...
