engine missing @ high rpm and hard throttle

hey this problem just started yesterday out of the blue, i started up my88 gta to go to work and there was a car coming pretty fast behind me when i got out of my drive way so i accelerated pretty hard and the engine was missing bad at about 3-4k rpm... i drove it the rest of the way to work it seemed to run fine unless i punched it in which case it would still move good but i definitely noticed the engine missing. also i heard a slight ticking when it was missing sometimes at about 4k or so.

dont know where to start any ideas?

Re: engine missing @ high rpm and hard throttle

sounds like a spark issue that has gotten worse. use to have an 86 trans am that did that and it was something like a spark plug that backed out or a bad wire. but id look at loose/bad plugs/loose or worn out wires. possible ecm or coil. could also be fuel related and be a fuel filter getting clogged. hope you get it fixed. good luck
