Re: Pre '86 Heads?

Yes.
Your intake manifold will not match up.

What '86 heads do you have? Why are you replacing your '89 heads? what intake do you intend to use?

Im planning ahead. Putting on better flowing heads, intake, cam, bigger injecters, and a full exhaust on to get a little more ummph. Any suggestions?

Re: Pre '86 Heads?

There were only two differences on the '86 changeover (one '86, one '87)

1) Valve cover bolt pattern changed from perimiter bolts to center bolt ('87)

2) two center intake bolts angle changed from 90* to intake surface to straight up.

#1 will not matter which intake type you use, and the other only requires a little minor grinding of the bolt holes in the manifold to make it work.

He's got a stock '89 TBI. Terrible heads if you want anything beyond what the factory did with them.

Good '86-earlier heads are 416 and 601 castings. Post-'87 equivalents would be 081's. Go with the 081's, everything will bolt right back onto them.

Sorry. My bad. Should I keep the Throttle Body Injection or will it be too much of a hassle to burn chips? My end goal is close to 280-300hp and somewhere 300-400tq.
