Starter Replacement.Please Help!!!
I have an 89 GTA w/ TPI 5.7 and im trying to reaplce my starter. I removed all the wires and the 2 bolts so its ready to drop. Now the problem is that no matter how i try to turn or position the starter i cant get it out around the exhaust pipe. Does anyone have a trick for this. On my last car it took some wiggling around and then i got it. But on this car, i spent hours try to move it around but its always stuck and i cant get it past the solenoid.I even tried several positions with the jack.
Did anyone ever have to cut their exhaust to do this?Anyone have any tricks or tips for a smooth starter removal? Thanks...Al in NJ

It's been said here before that it can be done, but I would drop the Y pipe if the nuts are not all rusted-up.

It can be done, but only if you remove the solenoid housing first. That's the ONLY way I got mine out.
