I ran hand ported and polished 416s on a 30 over 327 with TPI (holley stealth ram to top it off). The engine was detonation prone for sure. Could not run more than 30 deg timing, and I had to ramp it in very gradually (could not get it all in before 3500 or I got a lot of knock counts.) The 416/081 head hanging over a 4" bore is not an ideal setup. It will work if that's what you are planning on doing though. Do not run more than 30-32 max timing WOT and keep an eye on your knock retard. You will need to program for this, don't run a stock chip with 36 WOT or you may runinto trouble.

If you port the heads, increase the chamber size. That will avoid detonation, and will increase flow if you port in the right areas (near valves and spark plug)
