tbi to carb

Im buying a tbi 350 out of a 93 chevy van. I was wondering if my mechanical fuel pump will bolt up on the newer motor? What would i have to do to hook up the tbi in my car? Thanks for the help.

Fuel pump issue is tricky, especially with the later TBI 350s. Some blocks have the provisions machined and covered with a block off plate. Some blacks have provisions that were never machined. Some lack provisions all togather. To further complicate the issue, you could get two camshafts in TBI 350s. You could have a light duty engine with a hydraulic flat tappet cam that still had a fuel pump lobe or you could get a heavy duty engine running the peanut 305 roller cam that lacked a fuel pump lobe. The only way you could bolt a fuel pump and pushrod into the block and have it work is if you had a light duty engine, machined for the fuel pump and covered with a block off plate.

Yes.

And hope the cam has a fuel pump lobe on it.

Well im going to have the engine on a stand. If there is a hole can i shine a light in the hole and hand crank the engine and look to see if it has the right cam? If so what do i look for?

Stick a fuel pump push rod in there all the way to the cam. Turn the engine over while holding the push rod against the cam (if the engine is on an engine stand, just rotate it so the push rod hole is facing up). Go through 2 complete crankshaft rotations - did the push rod move? Yes - it has a fuel pump lobe. No - it doesn't have a fuel pump lobe.

If there is no lobe for the pump how big of an electric fuel pump will i have to get?
