one piece oil pan gasket

iv read alot of different ways was wondering if any one cam up with one that seems to work well with no leaks i have a felpro 1880 alot of people say just the corners read a few that put a thin coat all the way around the whole thing on both sides any ideas would be great thanx back on TGO tomarro

I've tried no silicone/selant on them, some on one side, some on both sides, just around the timing cover/cap. As long as you have both the pan and block clean, you shouldn't need any silicone. Another big thing is not to over tighten the bolts. The ones with the bigger head (IIRC 1/2 socket) 5/16" bolts, take 14ft-lbs. The smaller ones (again IIRC 3/8 even seen some 7/16) 1/4" bolts take 84 inch-pounds.

That being said, I think it's a good idea to put a very thin coat on both sides of the gasket, along with some at the timing cover/main cap. Also a good idea to use the rails that go along the sides, helps to spread the load.

I've always just dabbed the corners of the block. No leaks for me.

I tried the no sealant deal on a freshly cleaned block. Still leaked. Even on the stand.
I just put sealant on the block side at the rms corners and the timing chain cover corners. No leaks.
