SPUTTERING PROBLEM 1988 GTA
SPUTTERING PROBLEM 1988 GTA
Just put a new engine (305) in my 1988 GTA. However, I'm experiencing what I consider a small problem. Upon start she runs fine, but when I put it in gear and pull off she begins to sputter as I accellerate. After about 5 minutes of driving the it clears up and runs fine. This happens even if I let the car get to its operating temp. before driving off as well. It seems to me that the car maybe tempermental or maybe the injectors are not operating correctly. I used seafoam and it cleared up a little bit, but it's still smuttering a little, but less than before. I have new wires, plugs, new fuel pressure regulater, new fuel pump. thanks in advance for your help.
Oh, by the way has anyone experienced a humming sound coming from the fuel pump when our cars get hot? My mechanic thinks my exhaust sysem is too close to the gas tank. I never had this problem before with other catbacks. I currently have the 3" flowmaster catback system.

Not sure about your sputtering, probably not getting enough cold-start-enrichment. How old is your fuel pump?

If I'm not mistaken, the '88 should have a 9th injector, for cold-start enrichment. That's the next thing I'd investigate.

while running pull the injector plugs off the injectors one at a time.
if there is no change in the way the engine runs then you pull that plug and check for spark
if you dont have a tpi motor under the hood then chances are it is not a gta and you should fill out your profile so we can help with your diagnoses

That same block casting was used for carb, TBI, and TPI engines.

pull the injecter plugs one at a time while it is running and there should be a noticalble change in the running of the tpi
if there is not then pull the spark plug out and check the spark plug wire
