New mini-starter hits oil pan!?

I received my capable starter today from Summit and when I went to bolt it up and check my clearances I found it hits my Moroso 6 qt. pan!

Since it is for both 153 and 168 tooth flywheels the mounting block that physically touches the engine block is longer. Being longer it interferes with the very outside edge of the pan rail. Not wanting to pull the motor to get to the pan and then cut off some of my pan I thought about grinding/cutting a small piece off the starter mounting block.

It would be approx 1/4" long and 1/4" deep and cut through the 168 flywheel bolt hole. I don't see a problem, does anyone else?

Re: New mini-starter hits oil pan!?

Before you cut anything, can the starter be clocked differently to clear it? Many of the aftermarket mini-starters can be clocked in multiple orientations to clear headers/oil pans/etc. Like this one for example:

All of the different bolt holes on the nose of it allow changing it's mounting orientation.

Yes it can be clocked, however, the problem lies within the actual aluminum plate that bolts to the block. This is no way adjustable. I wish it was
