Re: Is it a LT1
If your shop looks at a TPI engine & says it if 98-up....
Simple...L98 vs LT1...Distributor or not? But the TPI runners perrty much tell the story already. Got a pic?
Run away & never step foot in there again. They are obviously too stupid to even be touching engines.

Re: Is it a LT1
If its a 98-up then it would be an LS1 style engine as 97 was the last year for the LT1. Nothing from a TPI would even bolt to a 98-up motor.
Hopefully not all the people in that shop are that dumb, but yea I would never go near that place again.

The best way is to get the block ID numbers and run it.
You should be able to find the numbers on the rear of the block, just behind where the drivers side head is bolted. Might have to wipe it down if theres alot of build up of grease, dirt, etc.
If you get the # I can run it for you.

I'm with Stephen. I recently worked on my brothers 89' Z-28 TPI engine. Also owned and worked on 96' Z-28 LT-1 and 01' Vette LS-1 engine set ups. If your mechanic can't tell the difference between these three engines, he's got way more problems than all of us combined. LS series engines are in no way, even loosely related to previouse small block designs.
