GLOWING HEADERS AT IDLE

ok, my stainless steel-ceramic coated headers are glowing at idle, i have a 25 degrees of timing at idle, (due to the aggresive camshaft) and an A/F ration of 14:1, from a cold start it takes about 20 minutes or better for them to heat up and glow, i have a brand new engine, heres what it has listed below:
ANY SUGGESTIONS??
383 small block 4 bolt main, 1pc rear seal
brodix rr200 aluminum heads 2.055/1.60 valves
comp roller rocker 1.6
holley stealth ram intake
58mm throttle body
30 lb. hr injectors
eagle forged crank/rods/pistons
10.0:1 compression
slp shorty stainless headers
holley commander 950 fuel injection software
comp roller cam:.584I/.579E-duration @ .050=242I/248E

Re: GLOWING HEADERS AT IDLE

Try locking the timing out at about 34 degrees.

Make sure that your timing set is ok and put in the correct position.

Re: GLOWING HEADERS AT IDLE

new engines run very hot. i dont know if your heades are new but you should not run newly coated headers with a new engine.
they usually recommend breaking in the engine with old exhaust systems - to make sure not to overheat them.
once the engine is broken in, then put the ceramic headers on.
i dont know why but that is the way it is.

Re: GLOWING HEADERS AT IDLE

I agree, happened on my Cherokee and made the carpet matting smolder and eventually the floor that was overheated turned into a nice big rusty hole. Even dried out the gravel where I pulled over to see what the heck was happening!
