Help engine smokes out of oil cap!!!

I was driving my 85 Z28 305 TPI on the highway and i noticed my temp gauge rising and not going down. i was slowing down and all of a sudden the car dies .i pull over my temp is off the charts and when i tried to start her back up the engine didnt turn or anything. after i got the car home i noticed there was no oil in the dipstick. i was shocked because i had changed the oil 1 week prior. this morning i put some oil and started her back up again. 30 secs after smoke was seeping out of the oil cap and i turned the car off immediately. when i looked in the coolant i seen like a brownish mist.

Head Gasket?

Re: Help engine smokes out of oil cap!!!

very well could be
could have cracked heads
most likely since it is puffing out of the oil cap fill it back to FULL and then see if smoke is coming from the dipstick tube could be blowby and or a cracked/broken piston..

Re: Help engine smokes out of oil cap!!!

this wouldn't explain the coolant, but do you have a properly working PCV system? I think engines can smoke like that without...

EDIT: well, not necessarily out the dipstick

Doesn't matter if the PCV works or not if you run it without oil until it seizes.

I wouldn't call a motor that died once seized. It apparently started back up.

It starts back up becauses it shrinks again when it cools back down.

Re: Help engine smokes out of oil cap!!!

He just needs to fix the severe oil burning problem, a rebuild. Or, like you said, a new engine.

Time to pull it out and either get it rebuilt, or get a new engine. Even if the oil consumption is fixed, the bearings will probably go too. These things do need oil to survive.
