383 piston question
Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between a normal 350 piston and a 383 piston, besides the trimming of the skirt? I've got a 4-bolt 350 block that was bored to .060" over that I am thinking I would like to build a stroker out of. Only problem is the 383 kits I have found only have pistons for the standard .030" over bore. I am thinking I may just buy some .060 350 pistons and modify the skirts to fit, but I want to make sure this will work. Something tells me the wristpins are moved towards the top of the piston a little on the 383 kit, but I cannot find any info to say yes or no to this. Or anything to show any other differences for that matter. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: 383 piston question
A 383 piston has a relocated piston pin up towards the top of the piston. If you put a 350 piston on there, the piston/rod length will be .250 longer, and the piston will come out of the bore on TDC.

Re: 383 piston question
That's what I was thinking. Any ideas how to go about buying pistons to fit a .060" over bore? Or should I just call up some tech lines and give then my specs and see what they can find?

+.060" is a standard size, you'll find lots of them in the catalogs.

Re: 383 piston question
I am looking at either the Summit or Eagle stroker kits from Summit. Have looked in a few other places as well, but these are the two I've narrowed it down to. In the catalogs though they only advertise the kits coming with .030" pistons. Mostly just curious if a .060" piston would be an option when I order or if I may have to go buy seperate pistons to add to the kit.

Re: 383 piston question
I know they are a standard size for a 350, that's what my original intent was with this block. I've just not been able to find a +.060" option for a 383 (or rather 388) kit.

Got it, I'll give it a shot. Thanks guys.

Re: 383 piston question
Summit Racing is a great place to deal with, and there prices are always fair. but I have seen kits of equal quality, for quite a bit less.
I have dealt with www.cnc-motorsports.com upon many occasions, and they have good customer service, and great prices, you might look into that before you purchase.

I've been buying from Summit for years, and have always been happy. Even when they screwed up they were quick to correct. I've never heard of CNC motorsports, but I will check them out, thanks.

Re: 383 piston question
Summit crankshafts are made by Scat (at least the ones i have seen). I have one in my 350 and there isn't anything wrong with it.
