Cam with Engine Help

i bought a 350 tbi out of a truck only has 11k miles on it just wondering what is the max lift the stock heads can handle. The heads are the earlier style center bolt vc and i have 1.6 rocker are for them(not installed yet) just wondering whats the biggest cam i can go in this motor and i believe its a roller cam motor? im swapping this to a carb i have a holley 600 cfm getting an edelbrock performer rpm intake but i need to know the lift on the heads before i go and get a cam. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Re: Cam with Engine Help

i think the biggest you can go with stock cylinder heads like that would be about .470''. even that might be a bit to much. why waste your time on those garbage truck heads, i mean just about anything would be better then those, unless there the vortec style heads. do you know what year truck the engine came from?

Re: Cam with Engine Help

+/- .460" but the only way to know for sure is to measure. There's no such thing as a Vortec TBI from the factory. It's TBI; they're swirlports.

Re: Cam with Engine Help

If it's out of a truck, it's most likely flat tappet. They got roller blocks, but flat tappet cams.

If it came from a truck its probably a flat tappet. There is only one way to find out, and begging on the net isnt it. You plan on chaning intakes, take it off and find out.
