Removing Valve Covers?

I know it's an amateur question, but I'm having trouble getting them off.
I've gotten the nuts and bolt off...but it doesn't want to budge.
I, experimentally, tried prying it a little.but I don't think I could do it withou damaging something.

Could I be missing something? When I take the oil cap off, I can see a bolt in there..do I have to take it out first?

Thanks for any replies.
As I go along, I'll be able to return the help.

Thanks and later.

Re: Removing Valve Covers?

Nevermind. I found something better to pry it off with and come out without a problem.

Thanks anyway.

A couple smacks with a rubber mallet work well too.

Re: Removing Valve Covers?

Rubber mallet if you have one, if not a regular hammer with a piece of 2x4 between hammer and cover.

Re: Removing Valve Covers?

I might want to check the trueness of the mating surface of the valve covers

did you notice any rtv on the gaskets

this is what makes the covers hard to get off most of the time

and most of the time if you have to use rtv the covers are a bit off
