XFI 280 cam and springs question
XFI 280 cam and springs question
So I am looking into maybe getting the XFI 280 from comp cams. I have been hearing that these XFI cams are pretty hard on springs though. I was wondering if the 130 lb springs that came on my AFR 195's would be enough to handle the lift of this cam. I would prefer not to change them out.
Re: XFI 280 cam and springs question
Possibly as long as you have the Ti retainers. You will need to shim the springs to get the seat pressure up to the 140's and run 0 lash on preload. Your lifters will be fine. If you still get valve float, you might have to change them. Check into the CompCams beehive springs as the 26918's are suggested to use by Comp for this cam. I would recommend Ti retainers with these too as it will also keep the valvetrain weight down. With the Beehive's, seat pressure will be around 130 but because of new technology they can handle the faster ramp speed.

Re: XFI 280 cam and springs question
I would NOT run the 26918s. I ran those springs on my old lt1 car with a cc306 and 1.6 rockers and broke a couple springs before it hit 50 miles. They were installed correctly and the rockers were lashed correctly. Engine was never beat on after the install because the clutch was brand new as well. I would look into other options.
