Hissing noise.
I recently put new spark plugs and wires in my car,
and now its smoking from under the hood,
and hisses from the driver side by the exhaust manifold/tranny.
could i have cross threaded a spark to get that noise?
would it be a SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSss noise?

Re: Hissing noise.
The noise you described sounds like a vacuum leak, look around for loose or broken hoses.

I suppose it is possible that you cross threaded that spark plug. You can always pull it out to find out for sure. Was it hard to thread in? You should be able to thread it all the way in with your fingers and then just torque them down. If you had to wrench it all the way you may have thread issues now.

That's weird, same thing happened to me. I replaced my distributer(old one's pick up coil fell apart after 200,000 miles). I was timing it, and I forgot to reattach a small hose on the back of the carb after I detached my EST 4 pin connector. I had a back fire through the carb (or a flame out, whatever you call it)
When I started it back up, I had this loud hissing sound that wasn't there before the backfire. Everything is back to semi-normal now, and with the air filter on, there's no hissing.
Odd?

Re: Hissing noise.
maybe thats what happened with me, i took a look at the smoke, and its cause i forgot to reattach the oil breather to the air filter.... dummy move on my part....
ill look for a vacumn line, and if not, i gotta put my hand back into that retardedly tight space again and pull the plugs and check them.
they all hand tightened though...
and i know i have the cables right...
would a vacumn leak cause a shake like a missing spark plug?
