406 AFR cam selection help
406 AFR cam selection help
Hi guys, I've done lots of searches here and I think I have some reasonably solid ideas but I was hoping for some extra feedback. I plan to build a 406 with miniram and 210 cc AFR street race ready heads (the cheaper ones) and will have about 10.5:1 compression. The 2 cams I'm considering are the GM 847 and the TPIS ZZ-X. I think I am leaning a bit towards the ZZX but the 847 looks good too. I will be using 1.65 RR I think that the lobes will be a bit more aggressive and the lift more on the tpis cam, but I'm wondering if the split pattern of the 847 cam would be beneficial. I would imagine either of these cams in this combo will rock. the other concern is tuning... will either cam be easier than the other to get a good tune? I realize either will require a custom chip. This will be going in an 86 4+3 car with 3.07 gears. in OD at 60 I think the rpm's will be planty high to make the big cam a non issue, and I'm hoping they will not be a problem at takeoff either. this car is not a huge drag car, it is a driver/autocrosser/road racer. so I dont want to see the low end disappear, but I have a feeling the 400 cubes will make plenty despite the cam. Anyone have anything similar and or opinions and comments? Thanks in advance for your help

Re: 406 AFR cam selection help
I have Lloyd Elliot designing my cam for me. There are a fair amount of custom cam grinders out there. Justin (Orr) went to Bret Bauer, Wishmaster went to Jay at Cam Innovations, and there is Isky. I'm sure there are others but thats what i can remember off the top of my head right now.
