Well my car has been smoking really bad and is not driveable anymore... It has no power at all and shifts terrible.. I was thinking that it was bad rings but didn't know for sure.. My question is can it just be valve seals and if so how would I go about knowing.. I know how to check them just don't know what they should look like.. If you can post a picture that would be so helpful...

 

Does it smoke when under a heavy load (accelerating hard)? Then it's most likely the rings. If it only does it when you start it, then it could be the valve seals. But you saying that it has no power leads me to believe it's the rings. The cylinders can't build presure because it's all leaking past the rings. How many miles are on the motor?

 

150,000 + miles on it right now... The car smokes when I start it and just keeps smoking and smoking... It is dumping oil out of the tailpipe too...

 

If it keeps smoking (and dumping oil out the pipe) then I'd believe it's the rings. Or possibly the PCV valve (even the worst ones shouldn't smoke a whole lot though). Either way it sounds like you're going to be in for a rebuild soon.

 

Yes I most certainly am... That's why I'm going to build me a nice 383 to take the place of this sick 305 (cough cough).

 

Have you checked to see if it's just a failed intake gasket yet?

Pull ALL the plugs and what do they look like?

 

not haven't done that yet but didn't know it could be that and if it could blow oil out the tailpipe... I know it would smoke but didn't know it could cause it to leak oil like I said out tailpipe.. I will check and see though...

 

I got a friend of mine coming over to run a compression test on my car and see if we can fix it....
