fuel pressure regulator problem?
i have an 87 iroc with a 305 tpi. the car has had problems running since the day i got it. i am kind of thinking it may be the fuel pressure regulator. is there a way to test this?? most of the time the car will try to start but die off right away. but every once in a blue moon it will fire up and run (it hasn't done that in a while). i checked it when i first got the car and it had 45 psi at the fuel rails. i have replaced the filter and i have pumped all of the old gas out of the car and replaced with fresh gas. i am thinking the problem is either the fuel pressure rgulator or the oil pressure sensor. any thought sor ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. I WANT TO GET THIS CAR ON THE ROAD!

Re: fuel pressure regulator problem?
You need to do more pressure tests. Does it hold pressure? Does it go up/down when cranking the engine over?

Re: fuel pressure regulator problem?
i installed a new oil pressure switch ( the one that goes to the fuel pump) and the car has started every time since! but when it starts it seems to run a little rough for a few seconds and then it gradually evens out. also the exhaust tends to get pretty stinky... ideas on what could be causing this??? i just ran some sea foam through the car last night and it seems to be running slightly better. this car sat for a few years with no attention at all and has 155 thousand miles on it. i think a lot of those were fairly rough miles.

Re: fuel pressure regulator problem?
ok... i spoke too soon. i went out to start the car this morning and it's back to it's old ways. it is much colder this morning than it has been... could it be the cold start injector?? what exactly does that do?
