What makes an LS7 lifter superior to a 'normal' lifter?

I'm curious what the differences are between an LS7 lifter and a 'normal' lifter. What steps are needed if you use an LS7 lifter? Is it a direct swap? Do you need different length push rods? What are the benefits?

Thanks!

I'd say better clearances for higher rpm operation. Most hydraulic lifters have the oil blow by the piston in them which collapses the lifter and the motor then has basically less of a cam at 6500+rpm.

So below 6500 there is no benefit?

Re: What makes an LS7 lifter superior to a 'normal' lifter?

When I rebuilt my 01 LS6 motor I ordered some of the "new" LS7 lifters thinking what the hell for $120 why not. What I found is that they were identical to my LS6 lifter. Apparently there was a change to the LSx lifters away from the LS6/1 lifter....if you look at the oiling hole it looks like the old LS6 lifter. They are fine lifters. I ran mine up to 1000bhp @ 6500rpms with the rev limiter set to 6750. No problems ever with the old or new...so far.
