edelbrok top env vs trick flow

i have a budget for heads/cam/intake of $2k my question is on a stock bottom end 350 which would be better. both trick flow and edelbrok claim 460hp with thier kits. i read an article on chp on a trick flow set up on a 350 and it made 428hp motor but cant find anything on the edelbrok kit. so the question is should i get a kit of try to match things for my self?

Go with the edelbrock kit. It is a complete kit. IIRC the trick flow kit you are talking about does not come with the intake.

Re: edelbrok top env vs trick flow

Trick flow makes a considerably better set of cylinder heads than edelbrock, and Edelbrock makes a much better intake. If I were going to buy the package, I would go with trick flow, there is very little that is more important than cylinder heads to make power.

Edelbrock also makes one of the worst cams available, it is based off an antiuqe design and has outlived its usefulness. I am not sure about the trickflow cam, it may be made by comp or crane, but I would call to make sure. The newer cam designs, like the Lunati voodoo or extreme energy, have far more agressive ramps, by doing this they not only can make more power, but do it while creaating more engine vaccum and better streetability.

I am sure that your car would run well with either kit, but it will run a whole lot better if you throw out those edelbrock heads and buy a set of AFRs or RHS, and replace that cam with a new design from a CAMSHAFT manufacturer, Edelbrock does make high quality parts, but they just do not invest the research and development into camshafts that COMP can afford to, or the r AND d int cylinder heads that AFR does.

These kits may indeed save you some money, but as far as bang for the buck goes, they are poor, because there is not one manufaturer who makes all the best parts.I would not buy a COMP cams intake, and Edelbrock cam, or a holley set of rockers.
