Another engine build setup, needs suggestions

Ok so after i finally have gotten around to saving the money, i am in the process of swapping a 350 into my 88' Trans Am. Ive decided to stay with FI and not to go carb since i dont know alot about them and i worked on FI most of my life. Heres my setup that i have put together so far, if you have any suggestions lets here them.

1992 350 TBI engine from 4x4 pickup 65,000 miles
GM Performance TBI Vortec Intake Manifold
99' Vortec heads from a 99' 350 casting # 062 with oversized springs
LT-1 Camshaft
Holley 670 CFM TB Unit w/ adjustable FPR
Hooker 2055 Headers with 3" collectors
MagaFlow 3" Hi-Flow Catyaltic Converter
Full 3" Mandrel Bent Exhaust
2 3" electric cutouts
Built 700 R4 with Hi performance band
B&M Trans Go shift kit with Corvette Servo

Now i know i will need a good tune to get the most out of my setup, and ive read the stock TB unit is good for up to 300hp, but does anything think i should upgrade my fuel pump since im going to be running a bigger TB? Also my Holley Tb does have an adjustable FPR but i have no idea how much pressure its putting out, So would i better off buying an in line Fuel Pressure gauge? And how much fuel pressure does a stock TBI engine put out? My goal is from this setup is only 275WHP. Im not trying to build a race car by any means. If anyone has any imput on my build let me know im all ears. Im picking up the engine this weekend and should have it ready to go in by the end of next month.

The only thing I would question is if that cam is going to be big enough... or else worth it.

I as well have been wondering the same, but my question is how much is too much lift for a set of stock Vortec heads. I have read that an LT-1 takeout camshaft will do plenty with a vortec setup but with me having the bigger TB should i go bigger such as an Xtreme Energy camshaft my Comp so just stick to the LT-1????

i would think the LT4 hot cam at a minimum... might need to check retainer to valve stem seal clearances but it would be worth it... a bit more aggresive than the LT1

Re: Another engine build setup, needs suggestions

I'm running Vortec heads with a CompCams XE-268H with the recomended lifters and springs. The head has been milled a bit so they cc at about 62. I'm not sure if that changed the length of pushrod I should be running, but I went with stock length anyway. I want to say it was about $180 for the shop to machine the guides for springs, additional lift, and I had to get some taller keepers. .015 I believe so that I could run that lift without spring bind. I am also running 1.6 rockers, so they took that into account as well.

From talking with the EPROM and TBI gurus about 4 years ago... mabye more. The XE268 still had enough vacuum for a novice tuner to handle. At least that's the way he made it sound.

Lt1 engines made 310 hp (or somewhere around there). To make 275 hp, you might want to go with the Lt4 hot cam. Only way to tell is to do the Lt1 cam and dyno the car. See what comes out of it and make a change from there. The vortec heads and intake should do well for you. Might be all you need to get good numbers. You might not need to go with a bigger throttle body, but like I said, dyno it and see what kind of numbers you get. You might be happy without spending a whole lot more.

Yeah thats what ive been thinking about doing. I may go with the hotcam but have also been looking to the comp cam xtreme enegery series cams. Have heard alot of good hype about them. The engine i bought already had an edelbrock quad-jet carb, heads, inatke and cam in it but i have yet to find out what kind of cam it may be. Only way i can think is by pullin the casting number off and typing it in to each comp, crane and edelbrocks websites to see it anything comes up. I still have lots of work ahead of me and will be posting pics later tonite of where i am at with the project. Also will be making a classifieds list for any parts i dont need if anoyne is interested. The car will be going to a shop not far from where i live to be tuned once finished as a co workers friend owns a shop specialized in ls1 conversions into third gens and has all the hardware ready.
