cars mixed up
was wondering if anyone new more than i did about my car. I have an 1984 Z28 with the computerized carb. correct me if im wrong but shouldn't it have a fuel pump in the tank an a non vac advance hei dist? As I ve been going through it i noticed the vac advanced hei unit, when i turn the ignition on i think im hearing an intank pump but there is a mechanical pump kooked up on the motor and also there are a ton of stray vac lines and electric plugs under the hood, that go no wheres. To me it looks liek some one desmogged and decomputerized my car, which is fine cause it runs great anyways. what does my description sound like to you ?

Re: cars mixed up
Sounds like someones deffinetly had their fingers in it thats for sure. For starters on the 84 you should have only a mechanical pump on the block. Electric pumps came later for fuel injection. Second the distributor was computer controlled/no vacuum advance.

Re: cars mixed up
I remember reading something about certain CCC cars having both fuel pumps to prevent vapor lock issues.

An 84 HO (L69) would have an in-tank pump in addition to the mechanical pump. Some export versions did not have the ccc-qjet, including Canada.
If your carb is computer controlled and your dist is not then you're never going to get optimum performance from that motor. The ccc-qjet will have a two prong connector on top, pass side and a three wire connector front driver's side.

Re: cars mixed up
naf is right about the pump in the tank. I did the switch from carb to tpi and changed the sending unit for it. The carb unit had a little pump on it.
