new member and some ?s

hey guys, my g/f wanted a project car, so she found this back in november for $1000......
1983 z28 ttop
305 auto, performer intake, currently has eddy carb on it, but going to holley so my truck can have its carb back...
basically stock except for the intake and carb, needs floorpans and new interior, ......would this have came stock with TBI?....theres alot of loose plugs around the intake area.....for the carb to mate with the intake i had to get an adapter, what air cleaner would fit on here?, the one on now wont let the hood close all the way, do i need a stock one to clear the hood and distributor?
the rpm gage pegs out when started and so does the oil pressure gage, when i rev it, the oil pressure gage teeters a little.....more ?s to come, this site is a little confusing with all of the subforums

Re: new member and some ?s

Well originally it came with eather a rochester quadra jet (most likely) or a crossfire intake which is basically a dual tbi set up. Its hard to say what air cleaner youll need with that adapter a stock one might work if not a dropped base air cleaner would be your best bet. As for the guages the tach ide need to look into as im not 100% how that works but the oil pressure guage works like a tug of war with the oil pressure sender creating alittle offset one way or the other. If one power terminal were to lose its connection it will peg one way or the other just like in tug of war if one side dropped the rope.

Re: new member and some ?s

I cant quite remeber now its been so long but for some reason i think i remeber there being a dimple on the base of the factory 83 air cleaner. That might have been my dads olds though had lots of car parts kicking around lol. Eather way you could use a smaller diameter air cleaner or maby a larger diameter stander air cleaner with a shorter air filter. With the adapter that should give you a bit more clearance to make that work.

Re: new member and some ?s

If you had to use an adapter to use an edelbrock carb, then either it's an EGR adapter, or it's not an Edelbrock intake. My '82 Camaro is using an Edelbrock performer intake, a 1/16"-thick, 4-hole gasket, a Quadrajet carb, a large-cap HEI, and a 14x3" air cleaner under a stock hood. This air cleaner is not a dropped base, and is not an offset base. If your adapter is an EGR adapter, you won't need it with a Holley carb, and it doesn't affect your hood clearance either way. The Holley shouldn't be any taller than a Quadrajet. You can always switch to a 14x2" filter, That'll still support over 400 horses. The drop-base isn't an option, but the offset-base is. pop over to www.summitracing.com and search SUM-239422

Re: new member and some ?s

well, it came with the q-jet and i bought a holley for it and rebuilt it and couldnt get everything sorted out good on it, thats what the adapter was for and the holley will be going back on, so the adapter will have to stay
