Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

Hi there, I was in the process of replacing an intake manifold on a 1985 LG4 305 SB Chevy powered Trans Am.

In the process, the oil pressure sending tube broke off from the block. I have the 90 degree elbow with the oil pressure sending unit attached to it, but the rest of the tube is in the flange at the end of the block.

How do I replace the oil pressure sending tube? Is is screwed into the block at the flange, or does it go all the way down into the oil pan/oil pump? Are their any easy cheap fixes for this?

Thanks very much for everyones help!

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

its just screwed into the top of the block. if you can get a pair of pliers or vice grips on whats left just unscrew it. if there is nothing sticking out of the block you will need a easy out. just be careful with them if you put pressure off center on the easy out they snap easy

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

thanks for the reply, I guess I can use one of those "grab it" type screw removers and try and back it out? Are replacement tubes easy to get or is a hunt in a junk yard?

Thanks again for the reply.

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

a grabit might work not sure if its big enough though.
the part that broke is just standard 1/8 npt fittings your local parts store should have it if not a hardware store will. both will also have easy outs. just be shure to use brass fittings in the block

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

easy outs on broken pipes work pretty easy since the hole is already in the center

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

Thanks for your patience.
Looks like exactly what I need. I just went out to have another look at it. The tube is snapped just under the flange. Do you know where I can get one of these "Easy Outs". I just checked Canadian Tire and they seem to only carry the Grab Its. May Princess Auto?

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

I think I found them...they are called screw extractors on the Canadian Tire site. Thanks again for your help! I will let you know how I made out.

50bmgshooter...Thanks very much for your help. I bought a set of 5 extractors from C.T. Size 4 pulled up the remaining pipe out. I will pop into the dealership tomorrow to see if they can order me a new part. Thanks again, have a great weekend!

you dont need to go to the dealer
just take the parts to a parts store and they can match them up

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

It doesn't appear to be a normal plumbing part...are you saying that somebody like part source would have the tube?
Thanks

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

If you are refering to the little tube thats threaded on both ends, I broke mine a while back and got one for about .75 from the local hardware store. Got it from the plumbing section.

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

The tube that I have has a 90 degree bend in it. I can't untread the tube from the elbow.

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

50bmgshooter...got the problem fixed. Long story, but tried Part Source, which sent me to the dealerships. The part is discontinued, was $50. Tried Performance Improvements...they had a solution for $45. Ended up at Lowes...problem fixed for just over $5. Thanks for your help!

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

Not too bad, a bit pricey for those parts, normally the tube and the elbow are around a $1 each at most hardware stores.. still better than the alternative.. curious though, why did you try a parts store and dealership first? We explained that they are just simple plumbing parts available at almost any home improvement store..

Re: Help Please! Oil Pressure Sending Tube

89RsPower...convenience for one...there was a place right beside my work.
Secondly, just a curiousity of how much an actual factory part would be. Some real sticker shock there! No issues, it all fit back in perfectly. Thanks.
