cam and vavletrain question
I am looking around for a different camshaft, and different springs and retainers,
I have TBI Iron cylinder heads
74cc heads received 1.94"x.1.50" valves and #100 lbs. springs with a competition 3-angle valve job.
I have 222'@.050" and .447" lift
I want a bigger cam specs than what I have, I am looking at this one at summit :
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...7&autoview=sku
273/284'@.050" and .525/.544" lift
I am kind of curious if that would be TOO big, but I am looking for more performance out of my engine, I may even change my intake later, but anymore height on the engine, it'll want to go through the hood, kinda want to keep it all under the hood.
I am looking at either these Comps Cams Beehive vavle springs to get more height, but I cant really figure out where would my vavle lift on my cylinder heads would be so I know where my 'Limit' of how much of a lift I can go, and don't go over it.

Comps Cam Steel Valve Spring Retainers

I did also look at these Lunati Voodoo Vavle springs and retainer kit, and I "think" these are better springs than the Comps cam Beehive vavle springs, is that correct?
And where would my valve lift would be at with those also?

I'm just looking and asking questions and get some questions straighten out so I know if I'm understanding these right, because I am looking at getting a new camshaft and valve train setup before I go onto getting parts for my transmission rebuild this summer.

Re: cam and vavletrain question
If you plan on going carb, the cam might be good. The duration is a little too much for anything fuel injected unless you can get a good programmed chip. Also, with stock heads (if they are stock), the cam lift would be too much. Those heads don't breath that well to get the power you may be expecting out of it. The cam you have is probably about as good as you can get for fuel injected computer controlled engines. Would also need to do something for a vacuum source with the brake booster.

Re: cam and vavletrain question
I took out the fuel injection (even though somedays I miss it.) I went to carbed. Holley street avenger 670 cfm vacuum secondary carb. (I later find out I dont need vacuum secondary, I should have went to mechanical :-\ )
I'm not exactly sure if the heads are stock. (the builder didnt tell me anymore than what I described.) I could ask him, but he doesnt usally reply to my messages, he's pretty busy most of the time.
I do know he did a stage one port job (not exactly what kind of stage one, but thats all I know.)
I did thought about getting different heads, but most of my friend's tell me I got a good set of heads.
maybe I should get a smaller cam?
if so by how much specs?

Re: cam and vavletrain question
Best thing to do if you are going to pull the heads is to get them to a performance shop that has a flow bench. That way they can get you the numbers on what lift is good for your heads and possibly make recommendations for you. Never just throw a cam at an engine if you don't know what the heads are capable of. The heads are where the horsepower is made and would be the place to start for the rest of the parts.
