timing cover thick enough?
i was looking at this timing cover and was thinking it may flex with a roller cam but was wondering if anyone has used this with a roller cam and had any problems.

it says you have to use a nylon button and it is only .090" thick.

Re: timing cover thick enough?
I am sure it would be thick enough. You could also use a edelbrock aluminum water pump with the adjustable stud to get finger tight to the cover as well to keep it from flexing. Here's the cover I used http://store.summitracing.com/partde...1&autoview=sku I liked it because of the adjustable cam button so I could get the cam just right in the block(retrofit roller) and also used the edelbrock pump just in case, that and it looks nice when done.

how does the cam button adjust and what is the part number on that pump? was it short or long? i have everything set for a long pump. having a hard time finding that pump with an adjustable stud.

also did you use any kind of wear plate or did you just use that cover other than that stud?
just trying to order parts and want to make sure i have everything i need in order to put it all back together once it is apart. so far all i have is the cam, lifters and timing gears.

Re: timing cover thick enough?
the pump part number is 8811 for the long version, which is most common. I did not use a wear plate because you have to machine the block some I guess to use one. The button adjusts by turning a little screw on the front of the cover to move it in and out. When you get it right, just take off part of the cover and hold the button and then tighten the screw down to keep it in place. Worked pretty slick for me. As long as you got the right lifters, you should be set fot all the timing components. Did you get the right size push rods because the stock length will be wrong with the retrofit lifters.

where does that stud go into the pump? the pic at summit doesnt really explain or mention the stud. is the stud something that can go on any pump? also the length on those rods are 7.150

Re: timing cover thick enough?
The rods should be ok, and the stud goes in the center of the pump at the bottom of it. Its a basic stud that threads through a small tab at the bottom and locks in with a nut when tight. That stud will go right to the cover, right in the center where the cam would be.

I'm sure the cloyes is thick enough. That thing is pretty beefy, even the removable plate. Sorry it took me a while to reply back, I was away from my computer.
