I think this is the correct place for this....

The seals on my compressor have been leaking since the day I got the car. My hood insulation has oil spatter on it and I'm constantly removing oil from the windshield washer tank. Recently, my AC system "moans" when on. The belt also dances around what I would call erratically. Since my car only has 15k miles on it, I'd like to keep the original compressor, but finances might speak differently.

Will a new compressor look the same as my original if replaced? For originality reasons, I'd like to get mine rebuilt, but I have no idea what the cost would be or if it's even worth it. Since the R12 will be evacuated for the repairs, what else will i need to convert the system to R134? R12 is expensive and I've charged the system a couple times now so a conversion is probably going to happen.

I have not been able to find anybody near me that recommends rebuilding mine. They all suggest a replacement. Any info or advice is welcomed.
