ok, I've been reading too much

I was reading several books by David Vizard about small block chevy's and building horsepower. I had planned on using an edelbrock performer on my 350. But in his book on carbs and intakes, he showed how and where to port a cast iron quadrajet manifold. He also said that it performed better than any performance manifold he ever tested. Between this and the problems with aluminum absorbing so much heat from the engine, should I just sell the edelbrock manifold and port the stock cast iron intake?

If you're sure your porting will equal his, and you're sure that's what you want, then go for it.

Well that may be true but his books are what 10-15 years old? Not to knock on the value of them just that alot of things have come along way since then. Now ive read somewhere that the ede;bock performer is good for a 20 hp gain over the factory set up. How much porting would help i cant say but then again whos to say you couldnt work the performer manifold a bit as well? Ide say stick with the performer.

damn, I just realized something.... I don't get the engine parts with the edelbrock until sunday, I guess I wasn't paying attention when i was over there. I just read that performers were squarebore, I'm going to be using a spreadbore carb :\
damn, I already told the guy I'd buy the parts, I guess I'll be selling an intake, LOL

There are now nearly a dozen different versions of SBC intake Edelbrock calls performer, and more than half of them accept spreadbores.
