A couple weeks ago I started driving my firebird after winter storage. I noticed the idle would lope when warm. Today I tried starting in and nothing. Just cranks. I depressed the fuel rail connection valve and there was no fuel in the rail. I hear the pump kick on, its only 3 yrs old so I doubt its failed already. I suspect the stock regulator is bad and is blockin the fuel. Any thoughts.

Btw - engine is a 350 TPI with 129,000 miles, all stock

 

Do you have a pressure gauge? If you can hear the pump, you can try to disconnect the fuel line that feeds into the intake and have an assistant help you measure how much fuel the pump pumps in 15 seconds, by engaging the pump at the ALDL. I don't recall what exactly the specified volume was on a TPI car, don't have my service book with me.
Also, did you replace the fuel filter? The block could be there. I have never heard of fuel pressure regulators blocking the fuel flow before. Usually I think when they fail the rubber diaphragm tears and they start leaking into the vacuum port.

 

Fuel filter is 3 yrs old. I have hard time believing a filter would bock up totally.

 

update, There was fuel in the rail when cranking(36 psi), just none shooting out the valve. THe problem was the coil wire wasn't makin positive connection. I still have the loping idle when warm, any ideas on that. I'm thinkin EGR clogged or vacuum leak...
