identify this seal
Can someone please tell me what this seal goes to...I labeled everything when i tore the engine down but evidentally not this. Cant seem to remember where it goes. Pardon my dumbness lol.

i thought maybe timing cover but i didnt take that seal out yet. i did drop the trans pan but not sure if that seal would go there.

Looks like timing cover or pinion seal to me, but the "tangs" on the outside aren't normally on it on the ones i've seen.
Its not like any seal i've seen going onto my small block chevy.

hmm. Yeah the only thing i can think of is that is went somewhere in the trans. All i did was take the torque converter off and drop the pan and remove the filter.

Yeah i just saw that site too. Looks like it has to do with the trans. I got a new torque converter so maybe that came in the box and i put it with the engine stuff by mistake. Looks like the oil pump seal/retainer according to a parts diagram i found, however i didnt take the old one off so it must be a new one. Thanks for the help though guys.

When I did my torque converter, I replaced the front seal and it looked exactly like that. That metal ring snapped around the seal to the trans. I forgot to put it back on though. No probs yet without it.
