drives 2 miles, then splutters and dies
i have an 84 Camaro SC w/ a 305/LG4 with a quadrajet, everything stock. When i first start the car it runs fine and will idle forever. Even once it has warmed up it still runs fine. But after driving down the road about 2 miles it will splutter, lose power, and eventually die. Then i have to sit about 5 minutes w/o trying to start and it will start rite back up w/ no problem what-so-ever. Then, as i drive away, 2 miles down the road it happens all over again.
i have already replaced the fuel pump on it and that has helped but only just barely. I'm wondering if the mixture screws could have gotten messed up and they are still capped so they have never been adjusted.
any help would be greatly appreciated and please don't say get a new carb or engine because I don't have the money for that right now.

Re: drives 2 miles, then splutters and dies
I had a similiar problem, but it was with a throttle body. It was on a Ford though, but it would idle great, back out the driveway cool, accelerate normally to the corner, then floor it and it would die.
Turns out after two autozone fuel pumps which after the fact were good, the problem was on the inlet line at the throttle body there was a small screen strainer that was blocked up.
Cleaned it out(removed it) and car worked fine. Did you check the filter in the carb? Also a fuel press gauge might help. I hope this helps. G-

Re: drives 2 miles, then splutters and dies
thanks for the suggestions. i took out the in-carb filter and cleaned and that didnt make a difference so i took it out all together and that didnt work either. a friend of mine said that it sounded like it was flooding out. what would have to be done to lower the amount of fuel getting to the carb; slightly smaller fuel line? i cant get at the mixture screws b/c they are still capped and i dont have the specific bit to drill them out with. again, thanks for all your help
