Carbed 85 305 doesnt like warm start
I have an 85 Camaro Z28-carb 305-mildly modified-jus got the exhaust put on and the timing and carb adjusted-car runs great(except for the tranny shifting)-starts up fine....when its cold. I cut it off to get gas and had a hell of a time restarting it. Went to Best Buy and it didnt start. Jus kept cranking and cranking-at the end of it it sounded like it was trying to turn over but nothing. left it, went back later-still hot outside but motor was a lil cooler-had a heck of a time but it started-any ideas?

Me and my buddy have the same problem. Our cars will fire right up when cold but if we shut them off and a few mins later try to start them they will lope like the battery is about dead. So far they have always started up but still its annoying. One suggestion given was that maybe the battery had a dead cell or something about it messing up when hot. I'm not sure how true that can be but I suppose it could make a little sense to me.

Are you sure the choke is set correctly? You might take a look at that. My son's 86 had a similar problem, turned out the choke wasn't set correctly. It's worth a look.

Next time this happens, hold the throttle wide open while you crank it over. It might be flooding.
Cause of flooding? Might be the choke as others have said.
Quadrajets also have these two well plugs that are notorious for leaking. The plugs leak and flood the engine. They sell a kit (they used to anyway) that has replacement o-ringed plugs. The plugs are behind the throttle plate (you have to remove the carb to get to them.

Its a Holley 650 manual choke that has jus been adjusted-the mech is gonna recheck the float tho-i don't use the choke tho-and when I did it didn't change anything-what about the ign module in the HEI?

Re: Carbed 85 305 doesnt like warm start
Sounds like the choke, i had the same problem on my '83 305ci, edelbrock. Adjusted choke and it was better. But when warm check your fuel line, idk about holley but on the edelbrock my air cleaner was smashing part of my fuel line. I bought a hose and fixed that problem. Until yesterday the lifter is knocking really bad. Might need an oil change because of constant flooding from the carb problems.

Did anyone ever figure out the solution to this? I have an edelbrock 600 with an electric choke but it isn't hooked up and the choke is all the way open. Could that be a problem? I'd really like to get this fixed asap.
