what cam is this? Help me I.D. this. I'm confused.

recently bought this: "LT4 Hot Camshaft (Pulled from a new LT4 Crate Motor)"

i'm not sure that's what i got. follow me...

Based on 15 minutes of google searches and images, the LT4 hot cam has neon yellow paint and LT4 stock cam has brown paint and both have the last three of there part number stamped somewhere on the end, correct?

what cam do i have if it has pink/orange (tangerine) paint and "071 AC080" stamped on the distributor end? is it the zz4? does zz4 have eccentric on timing end?

google the grind number and go from there. i however dont understand why you would buy a cam not knowing the specs. it is one of the most importiant factors in power, both peak, and having the power where you want it (ie low end torque).

of course it would be silly to order a cam you know nothing about.

i know the specs of the LT4 Hot Cam the ad described. the box it came in is labeled with genuine "GMPP" and the correct part number for LT4 HOTCAM. however, the cam that came in the box, the paint it has on it and the stamp on the end don't jive with the part number on the box, the part stamp nor any images i've found.

It is "New In Open Box" from an enthusiast web forum.

ANYBODY ABLE TO HELP??

measure lobe lift with a mic. lobe peak minus basecircle.

lt1 cam 200/207 0.447/0.459 lift 117 LSA (1.5"1 RR's)
regular lt 4 cam 203/210 0.476/0.479 lift 115 LSA (1.5"1 RR's)
lt4 hot cam 218/228 .525/.525 112lsa (1.6"1 RR's)

i am glad you just didnt buy any cam. you had me worried. if the grind number on the cam matches with the grind number on the PN# i would consider it the same. since it does not match, i would bet you didnt get the cam you were looking for.

not necessarily, my ZZ4 cam had different info stamped into the end than what was on the box, but it was the ZZ4 cam.

what differnet info? did it have 071 stamped there somewhere or not? mine also has AC80 on it. the gilbert chevrolet site has a pick of one with the tnagerine paint, 071 stamp as well as 3 other stamps. Pauly knows allot about this stuff, forgot his callsign, and says it's zz4. do you doubt it? if so why and how else could i ID it? thanks!

The only way to know for sure is to put it in an engine, get a degree wheel and a dial indicator, and start checking. Even the ZZ4 cams had all-different info stamped into them, from batch to batch.

you could just measure the lift as long as all of the durations of the different possibilties are the same.

just grab a mic and mic the intake lift and exhaust lobe lift.
