92 camaro RS starting issues!

When attempting to start, I can hear the starter and it sounds normal. Engine will turn eventually and fire but struggles to stay on, then stops; will sometimes start if I give it gas after it fires and then seems to run normally. There is a strong gas odor under hood and there is gas residue in air intake duct. The starter, plug wires and plugs are all new. Please, any input?
