How much power am I making?
I've spent so long putting it together, picking parts... and rebuilding it two or three times at this point... and I think finally my car is ready to stay together. I've been driving it around for a few days and all seems to be okay for the most part. Several hiccups here and there but nothing too bad.
Before I continue, I want to give a shoutout to dans87gta from Florida who sold me some junk cylinder heads he got welded and polished after he ported them through the water jacket. That set me back about 6 months on this. Way to go buddy! You're awesome. Then I put it back together with new heads and my block developed a crack in the #6 bore. And now, a year and a half later... I've put humpty dumpty back together again.
And now I cant really remember what I should be expecting as far as power output. When I was putting it together i was aiming for 300 at the wheels, but I wasnt sure if I'd be able to make it there or not.
From top to bottom...
It's a 355 with...
Holley 650 DP
GMPP dual-plane Vortec intake
Stock vortec heads with 1.60 exh valves
Comp Cams xe262 (218/224 @ .050)
Hedman Long tube headers and 3 inch duals with an x-pipe
And it's going through a T56.
The reason I ask... is my clutch seems to be slipping a bit sometimes... I'm wondering if I'm exceeding the specs on a stock LT1 clutch. What do you guys think? If I am I dont think it'd be by much... but I dunno. This thing should be able to breathe really, really well. I built it with the cam as the bottleneck so it'd be a decent street car and I'm pretty happy so far except for the fact that I cant quite get it to chirp second gear and I think it should be. But that may be because I dont know how to drive a stick very well yet.
But I can cruise at 20 mph in 2nd gear at 1500 RPMs, and stomp on it and the revs will just jump straight to 3500 and the car wont really move that much faster...
Maybe it's just the new flywheel needs to break in... I dont know. Coudl be anything really. But I'd at least like to get an idea of whether or not I need some sort of Stage 3 clutch or not.
