since my car is brainless, and doesnt have any emmisions items other than the charcoal canister it seems to me that i could just as well toss it also?


if i understand it right it merely collects fuel vapors, yet the tank is also vented via a hose at the tank...... so other than the legality issues of not having it, any other problems?

edit, i figure i should add that the car was a carbed 2.8 originally and has been swaped to simple v8 with carb and hei dizzy

 

yes you got it! it collects fuel vapors then reburns them for emission purposes,I have been upset by people disrespecting the charcoal canister by discounting it as another piece of emission junk and removing and throwing in the garbage!!!!! WTF!!!! the garbage is no place for the canister! It can be easily converted into shotgun target, rifle target,or pistol target!! come on people!!!!!!

 

Just extend the fuel line going to it down through the driver fenderwell and out below the car - that way if fuel leaks out there for whatever reason it won't be under the hood catching fire from a header or stray spark.

 

or i could just remove that particular line altogether right? and cap it at the tank? seeing as its vented at the tank

 

do you have 1 vent that comes out of the pump module with fuel lines and the other one vents to the filler neck?

 

im gonna have to take a look, i think i follow you, if it helps this was originally a carbed 2.8 v6 car, so the only pressure built in the tank is from temperature change and sloshing

 

I would not just the fuel tank out to fender well of car,fuel will leak when fuel is sloshed around it creates pressure especialy when the tank is full,also consider fuel leakage during an accident,or on a steep incline dumping fuel anywhere is not good,most new filler necks incorperate a ball/check valve that will not let fuel come out when the car is upside down,I would just leave it connected to the caniser if you don't have any weight or space consideration's

 

really no reason other than while the motor is out i want to get rid of stuff i dont need, just tired of looking at the clutter of useless stuff tho thats about all that remains aside from some wires that go to the computer(which will also be leaving) and figure if the old mans 74 nova doesnt have it it must not be too important

im not worried about weight, nor space really only thing i may wish to put there is an ignition box, but i doubt the harness will be long enough its more likely going to live above the ac delete box if there is room
