Just bought my 1st Camaro
After thinking about buying one for years I finally did. I found a 92 black Z-28 with 5.7 L that has 42,000 miles. I dragged my dad on a two day road trip from Buffalo NY to Roanoke VA to grab it. A guy bought the car in 92 with a 1,000 miles on it and drove it a few years. The car sat in his driveway for a long time as he is a truck driver. His daughter recently drove it for the last few years but had to sell due to a child.
The paint is in rough shape with the clear/base coat worn away on the fender, bumper, hood and roof. The car also had a few minor bumps with dents in the fender and hood. The interior needs a good wash and the headboard is sagging. The chassis has virtually no rust and the engine bay in clean. The car has RPO's N10, J65, GU5, G80 and G92. The owner did put on a nice true dual exhaust setup with some Flowmaster single chambered mufflers. The engine pulls hards and rides nice.
The girl was asking $5,500 but got it down to $3,000 due to the paint and interior condition. The tires on the car were the worst looking ones I have seen - craked with wear indicator strip showing. I had to get new tires put on the next morning and drive it back home. I'm in for $4,000 with the tires and tune up. Now the fun begins with fixing her up. I already have engine codes 15 and 32. I plan to keep the 350 TPI and beef it up with a F.I.R.S.T. intake system, cam, and heads. The stereo has a cassette player so I will have to dig out some old Def Leppard tapes

Nice ride.
I always liked the solid black z28's, I've been thinking of painting my faded blue one just like that.
Not trying to be a ***** or anything but didn't they only put the 5.7l in the IROC Z28, and thats just a Z28, right? Correct me if I'm wrong please. I just don't see any IROC badges and i think those rims are RS sytle and the IROC had taller tires.

I think you got yourself a good deal. That has a lot of potential and you sound like you're going to turn this one into another fine third gen.

Good find there Blackdog36. Looks to be a very solid car for being 18 years old. All you need now is to get her painted to restore her back to her fomer glory.

Re: Just bought my 1st Camaro
Thanks for the replies! It's crazy once you get these cars, it's all I think about.
Doom86 - I always liked the polo green and arctic white colors but black does look particularly good on these cars.
halstryker - congrats on the 84 find. Looks like you found one in good shape. I haven't seen too many of the earlier thrid gens around. I would have liked T-tops too but I don't think they came with the 350 engine. Oh well, maybe the next 3rd gen I get will have them

Hey Blackdog36, on the trip back, did you have any problems with the engine or was it smooth sailing all the way home? Did pops think you were getting a good deal or did he say something like, "it's your money"?

Re: Just bought my 1st Camaro
Hi Webee. Before I drove the car home I had Firestone look the car over real quick and change the oil & belts. They didn't find anything major. The can ran smooth 560 miles back home. The next morning there were a few small oil spots under the tranny near the engine. The owner recently replaced the oil pan seals. I haven't seen any more drips from the car. My dad I don't know too much about cars but we figured that any camaro this old would eventually need a new paint job. We felt that since the car had low miles and no rust that it was a good buy for the money. Yeah my dad did say it was my money
I think that sentence is programed into dads.

Re: Just bought my 1st Camaro
the is in pretty good shape just besides the paint.
i think you paid too much for it tho;i really dont know if there is a lot of camaros your way
but where im at in socal you can find you a way better camaro for 3,000. theres a 91 camaro with fresh paint and 18' iroc rims and 4th gen interior and the engine has under 80,000 miles and they were asking 3200 for it.
and i just bought me a 92 RS with a fully rebuilt 350(PO blew the 305 and swapped in a 350) i paid $450.00 for it
it just needs new seats and a radio and i already have my seats to be put in
anyways its a nice camaro since you did have to drive it back 560 miles, now you know that you wont get stuck on the side of the road somewhere lol

Re: Just bought my 1st Camaro

I bought my first car at age 16 (1968 Firebird), and in high school. We didn't have much in common, but working on that car brought us closer together.
It's good to hear that you have a strong, low milage car. Good luck with the car and thanks for replying!
