heads on 92 RS

So I need to do my head gasket on the d-side. I will do both.

Brief CAR History: bought her a year ago, from a friend that was down on his luck.
Bought car without a clutch in it the plate was grinding in to flywheel, also needed a heater core. Car has had an engine swap of same year this is verified by friend’s bank. Was told it had a rebuilt true 327 with about 9800 miles. A Professional told me no way it’s a 327 do to throttle body. What do you think?
Car runs strong to this day, starts right up, ever one who hears her gives a thumbs up.

I have put in new battery, clutch, heart core, alternator, full tune up, rebuilt the radiator. Just switch to fully synthetic oil with locus synthetic additive (do you think this could have caused the blow out? Im new to this but who knows), I ran 50\50 in her first.

I think the head blow do to the prier owner’s hot roding it, plus the heater core caused it to over heat for 3-4 months after I had it. I always stopped and let it cool down ( I could not get the time to put it in till then).Either way the damage is done. That’s the bad.

The good is the head gasket blow on the out side of the engine and the oil is clean. I don’t think the head is cracked. The pro said to try a seal, because the stock heads on this cars are cheap\suck, and he says I got a vary good chance of having a cracked head. I don’t do any thing half A** so I will take that chance, plus the leak is big about 2-3in and on a corner. I will get the heads a once over, or a rebuild if needed. I want to polish out cylinders but is it to risky? I Here it may do more damage then good.

What gasket do you recommend, brand (fell pro?), better size then standard, Why?
What ells should I do whale in there, what to inspect?
Have advice to make it smooth and easy?

Any and all advice as well as criticism is welcome and appreciated
Will start fri the 26 if all goes according to plan. I’m getting help and borrowing a garage and tools.

Thanks to the creator of this web site and to all who love these cool cars enough to help a stranger.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

My recommendation is before you do anything, get the casting numbers off of the block and heads. The block number is located behind the head on top of the bellhousing casting. Sometimes you can get lucky and the last 3 digits of the casting number (the ones that really matter) are cast into the side of the block above the oil pan. The head casting number is under the valve cover between a couple of rockers - need to pull the valve cover to see it.

From this you will be able to know what the engine is. It is highly unlikely it is a 327, although not impossible (you can put a throttle body on almost any small block Chevy).

After that we can start talking about head gaskets.

Re: heads on 92 RS

When I said true 327, I meant bored and stroked at least that's what he said. If the job was fully costume, wont the #'s be irrelevant?? but then again I'm just a novice hell if I know. I will post the #'s tomorrow Its late now. I got some more time and will start the job tomorrow as well. I ordered a standard fell-pro gasket set for a 305(but will be sure of the size before I pay for then). now I suppose I will have to just "lift he legs and look" as it was.

I want to polish out cylinders but is it to risky? I Here it may do more damage then good.
