Smog Experts: Analyze these numbers....

I know I passed, but the 15mph aren't optimal while the 25mph are beautiful. What do you think I should be looking at?

My engine runs significantly cooler than stock. Perhaps I'm overcooling it hence the bad numbers at lower load? I have a stock 195* T-stat, however I have custom fan control wired to my computer and it keeps my temps below 190 at all times. Should I change my PROM settings so the fan allows the engine to get warmer, say, 210 for my smog checks?

Re: Smog Experts: Analyze these numbers....

It could be a temp issue as higer temps reduce emmissions ide run some sea foam through it just for good measure to clean things out. One thing i wanted to mention though is you say you have a 195 t-stat and a custom fan control wire that keeps the temps below 190 all the time if i were you ide keep in mind what the closeing temp of that thermostat is and the off temp of your fan switch set up. The fans will have to work extra hard to cool the motor down if they can at all if the t-stats closed and the fans are trying to continue to cool the motor down. This will put extra wear on them and force them to run longer than they would with a cooler t-stat or a higher fan temp setting. Just something to concider.

Is a T-stat fully open at 195, or does it just start to open at 195?

I'm not positive about how hot is to hot but.. at 220 my engine over heated and started shooting water from the overflow tank. I pull over asap when my engine gets that high. I have to do a manual fan cause my sensor burnt out and wont come out! lol sucks...

Well a 195 T-stat opens when the coolent reaches 195 degrees but it does not close at 195 once its opened. The thing is say your t-stat opens at 195 and closes at 185 but the fans turn on at 190 and off at 180 the fans will be trying too cool the motor befor the thermostat is open slowing warm up times and the fans would be running after the thermostat closes. Its kinda like at times the fans are trying to cool down the motor while the thermostats trying to warm it up kinda get what im saying? Thoes numbers are just examples your set up will be different but its something to concider as there may be that conflict.

2 things at 220 it shouldnt have overheated ide say what you described was caused by some other problem as our cars typically run around that temperature. Also if your having trouble getting that sender out try useing some PB blaster penetrating oil on it. Its the best stuff ive ever used and have yet to break a bolt no matter how ugly and rusty they may be.

Did you even LOOK at my VIR? They give the average for passing vehicle right there for you and there's clearly something up and you clearly don't know what you're looking at.

Nice thread hijack guys.......
