Starting Problems
HI All,
I have an 87 GTA with the 5.7L. The issue first started when I was driving it, I went to turn Left and the car stalled. I shifted into neutral and it fired right back up, then about 10 mins later I was driving alond and it stalled again. Put into neutral and fired up again. Now the car will not start, it will only turn over but not fire up.The only way the car will fire up is if I use the gas peddle, as if the car was carbed. The car will die as soon as I take my foot off the gas peddle. Thanks in advance for all the Help.

Re: Starting Problems
Check your fuel pressure first.
If that's good then I'd check the MAF sensor - but the problem could still be something else.
What is your location?

Re: Starting Problems
Thanks, I will be checking the fuel pressure, as for the MAF I hope it's still good as it was replaced about 2000km ago. I'm located in South West Ont, KW area

Re: Starting Problems
I do believe that f/p reading is quite low for a TPI setup.
I assume you connected the pressue guage and then turned the ignition to run(no start) before reading the guage?
Either check a Hanyes book or search this forum to find out what the acceptable TPI f/p range is. If it is low, then its probably time to replace the fuel pump/filter.

Re: Starting Problems
OK Thanks, my chilton says it(fuel pump)should be at 40-47 psi. Now I get to have the fun of dropping the tank. I think it's going to be a PITA, oh well as far as I know it's still the original one.

Re: Starting Problems
Replace the fuel filter first - you might get lucky, but you will eventually have to replace the pump anyway.

Re: Starting Problems
Was going to try that first as I don't know if it has ever been changed at all. Start with the simple thing first.
Thanks Again,
